Director, Medical Staff Services - Michigan

Serving residents in 10 counties across southwest Michigan, this multi-site hospital system is a member of one the nation’s largest non-profit health systems. The Medical Staff is comprised of slightly over 800 practitioners including Allied Health Professionals. This health system ranks high in specialty services with an emphasis in Cardiac, Orthopaedics, and Stroke. Situated in southern Michigan, this area is known for its vibrant college atmosphere, as well as other cultural institutions. Several industrial, pharmaceutical and medical corporations are located nearby, promoting an air of innovation. The downtown area features quality dining, unique shops and galleries, and live entertainment. Living in this part of Michigan, you’re also never far from lakes and other outdoor recreation, festivals and world-class attractions. 

Position Summary
The Director of Medical Staff Services provides administrative leadership and strategic direction to the health system Medical Staff Services Department (MSSD), is accountable to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Medical Officer (CMO), and fosters a collaborative relationship with Executive Leadership, Chiefs of Staff and Medical Directors for the health system. The incumbent will be responsible for establishing and maintaining physician quality programs in collaboration with Executive leadership and responsible for system wide Medical Staff functions in relation to Medical Staff operations at each respective healthcare facility.
 
Job Requirements
  • Master’s Degree in healthcare required or within three years of hire. Bachelor’s Degree in health care, business or related field required.
  • Certified Professional Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) and/or Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM) required prior to hire.
  • Five or more years of Medical Staff Services experience required.
  • Five or more years’ experience in related progressively responsible leadership roles in relation to Medical Staff Services or health care Quality Management.
  • Working knowledge of State and Federal laws relating to health care professional licensing, due process and provisions of the Health Insurance Portability Act (HIPAA) of 1996, Health Care Quality Improvement Act (HCQIA) of 1986.
  • Expert knowledge of Joint Commission/CMS standards.
  • Expertise, knowledge and ability to independently assume a variety of high level administrative duties including providing assistance to Medical Staff Leadership, Administration. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with diplomatic skills necessary to interact with all levels of staff in the organization. Demonstrated ability to lead teams, build consensus, and work with physicians, staff, management and senior administration.
  • Current experience and knowledge in performance/quality improvement practices.
